Actress/Producer/Writer

Athena Ashburn is an award-winning actress, producer and writer. Athena’s name holds
significant meaning for her. As such, she has always proudly and courageously lived up to
the strength inherent in the Greek goddess of wisdom that is her namesake. For Athena, her name remains a constant touchstone, representing her skillful use of time-earned insights to discover new opportunities to further her career, empowering herself through the wisdom in every choice she makes.
As a prime example, Athena’s remarkably swift evolution to coveted “triple-threat” status
came about as a result of the dearth of creative roles afforded to women in nearly every field of a male-dominated industry. For Athena, the answer to this lack of acceptable options was to metaphorically mark the “None of the Above” box and write in her own choice. “I have always been a trailblazer. As a struggling actress, I learned very fast that there is no doorway into the entertainment world – to get what you want in this industry, you need to make your own entrance. And when I couldn’t find what I was looking for, I
instead found a way to create it for myself.”
After studying motion picture production at NYU’s prestigious TISCH School of the Arts,
Athena immediately began forging estimable careers for herself in multiple areas of the
film industry. For her debut venture as a producer/actress, Athena attracted Academy
Award® and Emmy winning actors to appear in The Elevator, a film in which she also
starred. She garnered the “Best Supporting Actress” Award at the New York Independent Film & Video Festival for her work in The Theory of the Leisure Class, which also won the festival’s “Best Thriller” prize, marking the first in a series of award- winning productions realized through Athena’s vision and hard work.
Athena served as a writer/producer consultant for Bold Films – Athena served as “hands on” co-producer on Emilio Estevez’ epic ensemble piece, Bobby. Released by Weinstein Company/MGM Nov 17th, 2006, which was nominated for “Best Picture” at 2007 Golden Globes. Along with co-producing the feature, Athena was executive producer for the BTS/EPK for cross-platform marketing.
When Bold Films had a stumbling block getting their risqué dark comedy, Mini’s First Time,
to properly connect with its audience, they asked Athena to sit in the cutting room
and consult with the editor, in hopes of making the story workable and more sympathetic.
Bold Films execs were so pleased with the version Athena helped to deliver – a cut that
Kevin Spacey (producer) also approved, premiered at the 2006 Tribeca Film Festival and
released by First Look, July 2006 – they gave her a co-producer credit on the finished film.
Currently Athena will be producing her original screenplay, The Sacrifice of the Rose, slated to
commence filming Fall 2009, which Athena will serve as a writer/producer/actress on the
project.
And, as is the case with all of her endeavors, it will have journeyed successfully from idea to film on account of the skills and perseverance of Athena Ashburn.
